CHAPTER

EIGHT

TREATY

The farmer’s market is held in the open area next to the Starry Night Café. I step inside the café before I go to open my booth to get a latte coffee because I’m exhausted. The last three nights have been brutal. Every night I get woken up by some loud noises on the property but when I take my baseball bat to go check it out, there’s nothing there.

Wilfred stands behind the counter smiling at me. “Treaty Tucker! I heard you had some excitement on the mountain and met the ranger. How are you doing?”

Smiling back, I lean on the counter. “I’m really good. I really need some of your coffee though. Extra caffeine, if possible!”

“Haven’t been sleeping good?”

“I could sleep fine if it didn’t seem like there’s somebody sneaking around out at my place at night.”

His eyes widen. “Somebody is coming onto your land at night?”

I nod my head and take the cup of coffee he gives me. I take a sip of the latte and moan. “You know what I like, thank you.” Another sip and I answer, “I think there’s been someone there for the last three nights. But every time I go outside with my baseball bat, there’s nobody there.”

“Oh, you shouldn’t go outside, Treaty. Why didn’t you call the sheriff?”

I can’t answer that because it never crossed my mind. I’m used to taking care of things by myself.

I glance at my watch and groan. “Ugh. I’ve got to go open up my booth. Tell Jacklyn that I’ve got some new crystal earrings. I know she loves them.”

“I’ll let her know. But next time you hear a noise, call the sheriff.”

I nod my head but keep walking, still not sure if I intend to call for help or not.

I jog across to my booth set-up and open it up, pulling out my boxes and bags and then unpacking the jewelry from the carrying cases. The very last thing that I pull out is my newest item, the crystal mobile. I have it in a beautiful clear crystal in hearts and flower carvings that I found. I also have it in a stunning citrine and moonstone design that’s carved into stars and moons. The clear crystal is a powerful stone for heartbreak and healing and also memory. The citrine is for when you feel low to give you calm and rest. The moonstone is to clear your head and help you make good decisions. These mobiles can be hung in your house as a decoration that has a helpful purpose for those that believe in the powers of crystal healing. By a window and they are recharged by the sun and moon.

I’m setting out my necklaces, charm bracelets made with tiny crystals and gleaming earrings when Julius comes strolling up to me, a smug smile on his face. Sighing, I glare at him.

“I don’t think you’re here for crystal jewelry so you might as well keep walking.”

His face goes cold and angry. “I’m surprised at you, Treaty.
